Scott K. Niermann, MPA, CFRE, FCEP
Building on pro bono services provided for over a decade as a nonprofit volunteer and board member, as well as professional roles in program development, fundraising and training for nearly 20 years, I launched a consulting and coaching business in early 2017. Clients have included foundations, parachurch ministries, private schools, community-based organizations and political campaigns. Services provided have ranged from short-term fund development efforts for operations and capital needs, to long-range facility and fundraising planning, to public relations strategies and timelines. Additional board and staff training has been provided in the area of nonprofit board governance, fundraising, volunteer management and community engagement. Individualized leadership coaching sessions and packages are available to both current and new clients following an initial free consultation to ensure personal and professional alignment.
Areas of Expertise
NONPROFIT GOVERNANCE & BOARD DEVELOPMENT
The governance and policy-making role of a volunteer Board of Directors is essential to the success and sustainability of any nonprofit. Clearly differentiating the Board and staff role is also essential to minimize conflict and maximize productivity. Training and meeting facilitation along these lines helps Board members to better understand their proper role and responsibility when it comes to defining, funding, and promoting the mission.
LEADERSHIP COACHING & professional development
A program designed to take place via one-on-one in person or teleconference meetings, leadership coaching is a structured process which assists organizational executives and leaders to better define their problems and open up new ways of thinking in addressing those issues. By asking questions, probing thoughts, and encouraging leadership traits, I assist busy organizational leaders to stay attentive, productive, and creative. Personal and professional development resources, including books, CDs, and mobile app subscriptions, are available through the Life Leadership company.
STRATEGIC & organizational planning
Facilitation of high level discussions surrounding your organization's mission, vision, and objectives help to keep key leaders on the same page during critical long-range planning. With organizational leadership thinking together and heading in the same direction with information flowing freely, organizations can avoid unnecessary politics and gain momentum in their strategic goals. Whether for nonprofit startups or longstanding organizations, you can keep everyone on track, with a written plan and timeline, not deviating from your stated goals and overall reason for existing.
VOLUNTEER MANAGEMENT TRAINING
An often overlooked facet of nonprofit and public organizations, the role of volunteer manager often falls within the marketing, fundraising, or other administrative role. Using research-based areas of focus, I seek to elevate the profession of volunteer management and prepare organizational staff to effectively advocate for and manage what is often the largest department in any nonprofit. I can also assist with the training of volunteers and facilitation of volunteer meetings, with an emphasis on adult-learning methodologies.
FUNDRAISING & Public relations pLANNING
I enjoy educating your board, volunteers, and other leaders in basic fund development principles, supported by longstanding research and evolving best practices. I can assist your organization, whether very new or longstanding, with the necessary fund development and public relations components and tools to have at your disposal. Facilitated training and planning processes empower your leaders with actionable knowledge and the ability to focus on strategies that will yield the most results, along with a coinciding strategic timeline.
COMMUNITY & Volunteer ENGAGEMENT strategies
With grassroots politics and policy experience from the Statehouse to Washington, D.C., I assist candidates, their party and other community-based organizations with policy communications, public relations, get-out-the-vote efforts, volunteer recruitment and management, political strategy, and other support.
